On this blog, I bring you along with me as I learn how to eat local and seasonal food. I share stories of farms, foraging trips, markets, kitchens and eateries to show you all the places where you can eat, buy or pick your own locally grown food.
I also explore why it’s important to eat local and seasonal food and how to actually go about it in a practical way. This way of eating, which really is a way of living, is different than what we’re used to in our fast-paced modern world, and it might just hold a lot of solutions to many of the problems we’re facing.
About this blog
My name is Phaedra and I’m an experienced photographer, writer, artist and chef. In my work I try to combine as many of my skills to create experiences that show what is possible when we allow more slowness, seasonality and sensitivity into our lives.
As a neurodivergent woman I have had many different jobs. Most recently I was co-owner and sous chef of De Vrije Tafel, a farm-to-table event and catering business in The Hague.
In January 2026 I moved from The Netherlands to the south of Sweden. You’ll be learning with me in real time as I explore how to eat local and seasonal food in my new home.
About me
The philosophy of Eating here & now
This project, and everything else I do, is created from the idea that life becomes richer, more beautiful and enjoyable when we allow ourselves to be more present.
Many of the mental, physical, social and environmental problems we’re currently facing are issues of disconnection from a sense of belonging and reciprocity from our land, from each other and ourselves. And, in a lot of ways, many of these issues (and their solutions) can be traced back to food: how we eat, what we eat, and where and how we grow, make and get our food.
By slowing down and being more aware of what is available to us “where we are, when we are,” we become more present in life. Eating here and now is about opening up to a relationship with the seasons, the land, our community and ourselves, to be fully present in the living world around and within us.
